Premier League side Manchester United have finally confirmed the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager until the end of the 2021/22 season.
The news of the German coming to Manchester had broken last week but the Old Trafford outfit were waiting for Lokomotiv Moscow to release the 63-year-old from his contract.
The official statement read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season, subject to work visa requirements.”

After the end of the season, Ralf Rangnick is expected to move to a consultancy role where he will not only help the club make future signings but he’s reportedly also going to be part of the team which will select the club’s next permanent manager.

After the appointment, Ralf Rangnick said: “I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club.
“The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.
“Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.”
When will Ralf Rangnick take charge of Manchester United?
Ralf Rangnick reportedly wants to bring in two assistants with him to Manchester United and one of them is expected to be his right-hand man Lars Kornetka.
It was Michael Carrick who was in charge of Man United on Sunday against Chelsea and there’s a big chance that he will sit in the dugout during the Man United vs Arsenal game as well.
Arsenal come to town on Thursday and it’s highly unlikely that Rangnick’s visa will be sorted out in the next two days.
So, as things stand, Ralf Rangnick will be managing Man United when they face Crystal Palace on 5th December, Sunday. It will be interesting see what the future holds for Carrick, Phelan and co when the German takes full control.
