The Premier League have finally made a decision on VAR and the technology is set to be introduced next season.

This news comes after the Premier League clubs gathered for a meeting on this issue and they eventually voted in favour of VAR.

The Premier League has been carrying out ‘non-live’ tests of the technology during the current season and it has made it clear that the tests will continue until the end of the campaign.

This comes as a huge boost for a number of Premier League clubs which have been urging the FA to introduce VAR in the league – especially after the UEFA decided to introduce it in the Champions League next season.

Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey, speaking on BBC Radio 5 live’s Afternoon Edition said: “I think it is a good thing. I know a lot of people are against it but we’ve got to embrace it now and move forward.

“We’ve seen this season a number of incidences that have been called wrong, especially this weekend when there were a number of goals ruled out when they shouldn’t have been.

“I think as long as we get the training and education right, and we get the right personnel, that’s the most important thing for me.

“The referees will still want to go out and get the key match decisions right, it’s very important that referees are not hiding behind the VAR – they’ve still going to be making these big calls correctly.”

The VAR was introduced in the World Cup this summer in Russia and the tech made with widespread appreciation following which a number of the major leagues in Europe has opened up to it.

And now it seems that the Premier League is also finally accepting the VAR.
