After a lot of search and discussions, Scottish side Celtic FC have finally agreed personal terms with Ange Postecoglou to become their next manager, according to Sky Sports.

The report claims: “Ange Postecoglou has verbally agreed personal terms with Celtic to become their new manager.

“The Parkhead club are hoping to have the Australian in place in time for their pre-season training camp in Wales, which begins on July 5.

“Should he complete his move to Celtic, Postecoglou – who is currently in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos – would need to come through 10 days of quarantine before he could begin work.”

Who is Ange Postecoglou?

Ange Postecoglou, 55 was born in Greece but currently has Australian citizenship.

The Athens born man has spent most of his managerial career in Australia and there have been only two occasions when he has moved out of the country. First was in 2008 when he managed Greek side Panachaiki and then in Japan where is he currently in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos.

When is he taking charge at Celtic?

Ange Postecoglou started his managerial career with South Melbourne in 1995 but he does not have a UEFA Pro Licence and this is proving the be the only obstacle in this deal.

A UEFA spokesperson said: “Mr Postecoglou does not currently hold the UEFA Pro Licence.

“A recognition of competence procedure has been initiated. The process could take several weeks. We don’t have any further information to provide at this stage.”

Celtic FC are confident that UEFA will recognize the 55-year-old’s vast managerial experience and give him a recognition of competence. The SPFL side expect him to take charge of the side before the pre-season training camps begin.

Is Ange Postecoglou going to be the next Arsene Wenger?

When Arsene Wenger took charge of Arsenal back in 1996 there was similar displeasure amongst the fans, primarily due to the fact that the Frenchman was unknown to the English supporters.

And according to former Australia goalkeeper Mark Bosnich, Postecoglu might be a risky appointment but he has the ability to make a similar sort of impact.

“I was in England when Arsene Wenger was appointed as Arsenal manager and I’ll never forget the back pages where the vast majority of them had the headline of ‘Arsene who?’ Well we found out since who Arsene Wenger was,” said Bosnich.

The playing style of the soon-to-be Celtic boss:

Mark Bosnich has previously worked with Ange Postecoglou as a pundit and speaking about the new Celtic boss, the keeper has explained what the 55-year-old’s usual tactics are and how he chooses to set up his sides.

He said, as reported: “In terms of his playing philosophy, I used to have debates with him because he was a big fan of this ‘it’s about the process and that’s more important than the result’, but he’ll find out very, very quickly – as I’m sure he has done in Japan – that the result is going to define exactly how he goes here.

“He loves playing attractive football, he loves his team to press high, he loves to have centre-backs that can play out from the back.

“He prefers to play a 4-3-3, sometimes that can be a 4-2-3-1, but if there’s one word to describe him in terms of his coaching, that would be adaptable.”
