Celtic FC have wrapped up yet another Premiership title but they are in for a busy summer which is why the club’s think tank has already started the background work in terms of the transfers.
The manager is reportedly looking to add at least three to four new players during the upcoming window and one of the targets for the Bhoys is Shakhtar Donetsk left-back Irakli Azarovi.
The 22-year-old full-back joined Shakhtar just last summer and his first season at the club has been decently impressive with four assists in 32 games across all competitions. His contract with the club expires in 2028 and his market value is €3.5 million which is very much within the reach of Celtic.
Is Irakli Azarovi a necessary signing for Celtic?
This season, Greg Taylor is the only left-back in the Celtic squad but they will get back Adam Montgomery who will return from Motherland from his loan spell.
However, Montgomery has played in only three Premiership games this season so a signing like Irakli Azarovi is going to be very necessary for Brendan Rodgers.
Also, Celtic will be in the Champions League next season and because Azarovi has played in both the Champions League and the Europa League this season, he will be the ideal signing for Rodgers.
The team is scrabbling to sign a new keeper who can replace Joe Hart but the Celtic manager will also need a left-back who can challenge Greg Taylor next season. Thankfully, Taylor had managed to remain injury-free which is why he played in 45 games this season but the 26-year-old’s contract is set to expire in 2025 and Azarovi have all the attributes to become the long-term successor to Taylor.
