Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan Arsenal news

Arsenal picked up the FA Cup by beating Chelsea last weekend and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was once again the star of the show.

The Gabon international has been the best player in the Arsenal squad during the 2019-20 season and at Wembley, he scored both the goals vs the Blues. Immediately after the win though, the question of his departure popped up but Mikel Arteta remained confident that Aubameyang will put pen on paper to the new deal.

The manager said after the match: “Well, you asked me my opinion and that’s the feeling I get with conversations with him and his people, but obviously nothing is done yet and I want to enjoy the victory.

“Thanks to Auba again for the performance that he had and how much he helped the team.

“Everything is based on my conversations with him, how he sees his future, what I expect from him, the team that I want to build around him and the conversations I have with the people who are very influential around him.

“The club, we all respect and admire him, the players are all behind him. We know the players that we have and we have to value him. I think if we reach all of those points, we’ll make progress.”

Now according to pundit Chris Sutton, the former BVB forward should be looking to head out of the Emirates if he harbours any ambition of winning silverware.

“I don’t get why can’t he just say – yes or no. What is there to sort out? You can say contract terms, but I’m sure Arsenal would have offered him a fortune,” Sutton said, as reported.

“If he had any ambition he’d want to go elsewhere. Arteta himself before the game said that it would be a disappointing season even if they won the FA Cup.

“He knows how much work he has to do.”

The entry into the Europa League will have given Arteta a big boost in trying to hold onto Aubameyang beyond the summer but the club also needs to show their intent in the transfer market in order to convince the forward that they are moving in the right direction.
