Cristiano Ronaldo proved to be the hero for Portugal after he scored a hattrick against Spain to snatch a 3-3 draw in their first Group game of the World Cup.

Ronaldo gave Portugal the lead during the opening few minutes of the game from the penalty spot which was later cancelled out by Diego Costa. The Real Madrid star then went onto score the second goal for Portugal or should we say that David De Gea gifted him a goal.

After Spain managed to stage a fight back and were eventually leading the match 3-2 only to be denied all the three points thanks to an 88th-minute free kick from Cristiano Ronaldo.

While the Portuguese was seen performing his usual post-goal celebration but the fans noticed something unusual after he scored the first goal.

Ronaldo seemed to stroke his chin multiple times after doing his normal celebrations.

And this got many people thinking as to what this could mean.

Now the social media fans seem to have finally come up with a solution and they claim that Ronaldo’s chin-stroking was a reference to him being a GOAT – the greatest of all time.

Ronaldo’s GOAT reference was not the only big talking point of the match though as the howler from David De Gea that lead to Portugal’s second goal has also been the centre of much debate.

The mistake was unexpectedly from a goalkeeper of De Gea’s stature but since then the United No 1 has come out to defend himself and a series of his teammates – past and present have also stood by the shot-stopper.
