Why Man United are not likely to sell this faltering player: Great news for Sheffield?

David De Gea has seen a real dip of form over the past year or so and once again his mistake cost Man United two precious points last week in the Premier League.

Thanks to his error, Spurs managed to score their only goal of the game following which there has been widespread criticism regarding the Spain No 1 and his declining talents. Many fans and pundits have urged Man United to sell him off during the summer transfer window but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has chosen to back him entirely.

“David is the best goalkeeper in the world,” the United boss said of De Gea, as per Four Four Two.

“He’s conceded two goals in the last seven game he’s played for us. There’s two games against City, Chelsea, of course, Tottenham, Everton. Two goals in seven games, we’ve gone on a run not conceding goals.

“The Everton one is a freak one, maybe. This one, he cannot save it. He makes great saves, he wins games for us and I still think he’s the best goalkeeper in the world.

“David’s working really hard. He’s not making errors that you see time and time again. He’s been consistently working hard in training and I’m very pleased with his work.”

But while backing David De Gea, the manager has also hinted that Dean Henderson will be United’s future No 1 which has led many people to believe that the Spanish keeper will indeed be shown the door at the end of the season.

“It’s a different job to be playing for Sheffield United and for Man United,” Solskjaer said of Henderson.

“There’s different, how do you say…he’s got different roles. For me, the two years he’s had have been fantastic for his development. He’s had to play with men, play against men, he’s played in the Championship.

“He’s played now behind a team that’s played fantastic football and exciting football and, as the stats show, he’s proven worthy of quite a few points at this stage. He’s learning all the time. He’s a passionate keeper that wants to be the best so he’s developing, he’s got good coaching there.

“I think one day he’ll be England number one and Man United number one and it’s up to him to keep developing.”

Will David De Gea be sold off in the summer?

If David Dea Gea is sold by Solskjaer this summer then obviously Dean Henderson will be called back from Sheffield United which will be a big blow for Chris Wilder and his plans for next season.

But according to journalist Daniel Storey, the Man United management are not likely to part ways with their current No 1, not at least this summer.

He said, as reported: “Of all the summers to sell David de Gea, this is probably the least likely with the new kind of austerity of transfer budgets, which I suspect is going to be enforced right across Europe.

“There are only one or two clubs who would buy him anyway, and I’m not sure they will have enough money or enough need to spend that money on a goalkeeper, so I think he’s probably going to stay for a while and if you’re going to keep him, he will start. I’ve got no doubt of that. I don’t see any value in dropping him, really.”
