Is this why Mane & Salah had another poor show for Liverpool, this time vs Newcastle United?

Liverpool almost picked up a win vs Newcastle United thanks to an early goal by Mo Salah but it was an injury-time equaliser from Joe Willock which helped the Magpies pick up a crucial point.

The Reds have been really poor this season and the 1-1 scoreline vs Newcastle United was their ninth draw in the Premier League so far. Not to mention, they have lost the same number of games as well.

One of the biggest reasons why Liverpool invoke little to no fear amongst their opponents this season is because both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah have been really off-form this season. And according to Michael Owen, the pair’s inability to kill off chances is proving to be a big headache for Jurgen Klopp.

“That’s the problem: Mane, brilliant player, scores lots of goals. Salah, unbelievable player as well, scores lots of goals,” said Owen, per the Metro.

“But they’re not natural finishers, they’re not someone that you can hang your hat on. They’ve scored goals consistently because Liverpool have, like today, created so many chances.

“But they’ve been wanting, or the team have been found wanting a lot of the season with missed chances.”

Last season, both Mo Salah and Mane were scoring goals for fun but this time around, the pair have scored only 28 goals in the Premier League.

Out of these 28, Mo Salah has netted 20 while Sadio Mane has managed only eight. But even the Egyptian’s flurry of goals came towards the first half of the season as in the new year, he’s scored only seven goals.

Everyone thought Liverpool will be in shambles defensively due to players like Van Dijk and Joe Gomez being out with long-term injuries but it’s the forward players who are causing the major worries for Klopp right now.

Against Newcastle United, Liverpool managed as many as nine shots on target but could only manage to score from one of them. On the other hand, the Magpies had four shots on target and one of them turned out to be a dagger to the hearts of the Liverpool fans.

The draw means Liverpool are now sixth on the league table, four points adrift that final Champions League spot and next up they will take on Manchester United.
