Football is game driven by fans and their passion towards their favourite club.
If you believe the above statement then you are in the right but sadly that’s just half the truth.
In reality, to keep a football club running a lot of decisions have to be made, decisions which are more often than not driven by finances.
And one such case is the appointment of the new Chelsea manager.
Even before the 2017-18 season came to an end everyone was more or less certain that Antonio Conte would be shown the door and a new manager would be brought in. But instead of sacking the Italian midway through the season, the Blues decided to wait until to end of the season.
But a couple of weeks have passed since Chelsea played their final game of the season and they are yet to sack Antonio Conte and in turn, bring in his replacement.
On the top, it might seem that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is waiting to find the right replacement but as we go deeper the move is a very calculated one.
So, why haven’t Chelsea sacked Antonio Conte?
The Blues are yet to terminate Antonio Conte’s contract as the manager of Chelsea primarily because they are waiting to see if the Italian can land up a new job before he heads out of Stamford Bridge.
If Conte does get a new club then Chelsea will have no liability to pay a compensation – a move that they are desperately trying to avoid.
Chelsea are hoping that the Italian gets a new job pretty quickly or else the club will be liable to pay his annual wages in full despite him moving out of west London – sooner or later.
And, why haven’t Chelsea got Sarri onboard?
Sarri was the favourite to replace Antonio Conte as the new Chelsea manager but reports are now claiming that the Blues have cooled their interest in the former Napoli manager.
And this has primarily to do with a clause in Sarri contract with Napoli.
Napoli have already announced Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager but in a very cheeky move the Serie A club have not yet handed over the reigns to their new coach.
As things stand, Maurizio Sarri is still on the payroll of Napoli.
This means that if Chelsea want to hire Sarri then they will have to pay €8 million to Napoli as per the terms of his contract with the Serie A side.
Whereas, if Napoli decide to sack him then the club will have to pay only €500,000 as compensation.
So clearly Napoli are taking their own sweet time in handing first-team duties to Carlo Ancelotti.
