Timo Werner Liverpool
Timo Werner (RB Leipzig, 11) kann sein Versagen nicht fassen, nachdem er völlig frei stehend über das Tor schoss; Enttäuschung, enttäuscht, Frustration, disappointed

Timo Werner has been constantly linked with a move to Liverpool and it seems like this transfer is finally about to happen – as per the various reports.

Werner is one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe right now and a number of clubs want to sign him during the summer. But the player has made his intentions pretty clear – he wishes to play under Jurgen Klopp.

And while some pundits have their doubts over the move, Graeme Souness has explained why Liverpool are possibly going to try and sign him and why the Anfield outfit are the favourites right now.

“I think [Liverpool will strengthen] upfront, and that’s why I think they will go after Werner,” he told The Football Show on Sky Sports.

“When we were the dominant team during my time as a player, every summer they spent money and brought players in. It was the Liverpool way.

“I’m thinking of Fabinho and Andy Robertson, they have bought players in the past that do not need to slot into the side straight away, or make an instant impression, and that’s a great place to be.

“Liverpool are there, where they can cherry-pick the best, and they do not have to come in and be a superstar from the first game onwards, and the pressure is off them, so they can look around and figure out what it takes to be a Liverpool player.”

If Liverpool do manage to bring in Timo Werner then surely it will sound the alarm bells for Roberto Firmino who has not been at the top of his game this season.

During the current season, the Brazilian has managed to score only eight goals in 29 Premier League matches while Werner has thumped in 21 goals in just 25 league games in Germany.

So while many people feel Timo Werner will have to prove his worth at Liverpool next season we assume Roberto Firmino will probably fall down the pecking order purely based on statistics.

It is still unclear whether Liverpool will actually make a move or not but the German international has a release clause of just £52 million. So clearly money is not going to be an issue for the Anfield outfit.
