Why Man United are likely to suffer an away defeat vs City on Sunday

Man United are currently second on the Premier League table and next up, they travel across town to take on Man City in the derby.

United are trying desperately to remain in the title hunt along with their local rivals but according to Michael Owen, the Red Devils are likely to walk out of the Etihad without even a single point.

He wrote for BetVictor: “Ole Gunnar Solkjaer has come in for a bit of criticism in recent weeks due to his side’s under-par record against the top six. However, when you look at how United set up, it’s no real surprise. They simply don’t get to dictate the territory against these sides and ultimately that can lead to a stalemate.

“However, one side that will happily dominate possession is City. They can’t play any other way, so I expect United to be pinned back from the outset.

“Ole will hope his side can utilise their excellent counter-attack and I believe it’s likely they’ll score.

“However, I just can’t see them keeping City out and think this will be the end of Manchester United’s magnificent away run.”

Will Man United finally fall out of the title race?

Man United have been in stellar form, away from home this season but that unbeaten record is under serious threat now.

Manchester City are unbeaten in 28 matches in all competitions and not many sides have come to the Etihad and have outplayed Pep Guardiola’s side.

Also, Man United have a very poor record against top-six sides this season so it will not be a surprise if Solskjaer chooses to somewhat park the bus on Sunday. Obviously, the manager will want to pick up a win against their arch-rivals but in the end, even a point against such a strong Man City side is nothing short of an achievement.

After this game, Man United are back in the Europa League where they face AC Milan so the last thing Ole would want is to go into such a key game at the back of an embarrassing loss.
