Manchester United have parted ways with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez both of whom have joined Serie A side Inter Milan.

While Sanchez has moved to Inter on a season-long loan deal Romelu Lukaku has been offloaded permanently. But many people feel the manager was too hasty in letting these two players leave especially since he could not bring in apt replacements before the transfer window shut down.

But speaking about the transfers of Romelu Lukaku and Sanchez, former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand explains why the Norwegian boss chose to let the duo leave.

“It’s[squad] got thinner and that could be a concern,” Ferdinand told talkSPORT.

“I’m quite pleased on one hand because I’m starting to see what Ole wants the makeup of this squad to be and he’s starting to shape it the way he wants.

“I remember an interview he did at the end of last season, he said he wants this team to be the fittest team, to work hard and want to be here.

“He’s setting the tone and that’s a vital part of any football club.

“There has to be a method, a philosophy and an ideology of what you want it to be. If people don’t fit it – goodbye! I’m happy with that.

“For far too long at Man United, some people thought they were doing the club a favour by being there. He wants to change that dynamic and he’s doing that by making big decisions.

“There’s going to be uneasiness in that squad now. Big players thrive under those conditions.”

Romelu Lukaku and Sanchez both struggled to win over the fans and their offloading means that Solskajer too has not been impressed with them.

Ole is clearly moving ahead with a philosophy and both Lukaku and Sanchez do not fit into that but what most fans are worried about is that the manager has not brought in any replacement.

Solskjaer has said he wants the trio of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood to lead the line during the current season and many believe these are not the right players to lay faith on – especially when Man United are trying to get back into the Champions League.
