Manchester United have really struggled to keep pace with the likes of Man City and Liverpool during the past couple of years. And due to that, these two sides have been ruling England as well as Europe in the absence of United.

But according to Darren Fletcher, his former side need to get back to the top as soon as possible and challenge for the title. And the former playmaker has predicted that this opportunity will come pretty soon.

“Manchester United cannot allow that (when asked about Liverpool’s title drought). The current run is bad enough as it is,” Fletcher told beIN Sports via Sports Mole.

“We need to see Manchester United winning the league in the next two or three years down the line.

“That’s being realistic. The bar has been raised in terms of what it takes to win the league. United have to be ready for Man City and Liverpool to drop off, which will probably come in a couple of years.

“I can’t see Pep Guardiola still being at Manchester City in two or three years. Jurgen Klopp, too. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, [but] Man United have to put themselves in a position to capitalise if that happens.

“Next season I expect a better campaign and in two or three years, I am expecting title challenges and potentially winning.”

Can Manchester United get back to the top so soon?

Manchester United have been trying really hard to get back to the top ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. But it has always been a case of one step forward and two steps back for the OT outfit.

And under Solskjaer too, this team has made very slow progress as a number of fans have been highly critical of the Norwegian and his ability to bring back the glory days.

Now though it seems like Manchester United are on the right track and if Ole is given time, then surely he can get things right.

Also, there’s a big chance that by the time, United have finished the rebuilding process, both Klopp and Guardiola might have moved out of England in which case things will get a whole lot easier.

If City cannot remain in the Champions League next season, then there’s a massive chance that the Spaniard heads out and once Liverpool win the Premier League then Klopp will also start considering his future.

So now for Manchester United, it’s just a case of hanging on tight and keep moving forward.
