Marcus Rashford Man United

A couple of weeks ago, Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had said that the trio of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood will have to share goalscoring duties this season.

But according to former Premier League forward Allan Shearer, Marcus Rashford is not a natural goalscorer and will struggle to score live up to the expectations.

While talking about Marcus Rashford, Shearer compared him with England captain Harry Kane and explained why the Mancunian will never be the heir to the Spurs forward.

He wrote for The Sun: “Gareth Southgate’s assessment that Marcus Rashford is not a No9 is spot on.

“Even this season, when Manchester United’s main striker Romelu Lukaku left, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plays Anthony Martial down the middle.

“I get the feeling Marcus feels more confident coming in off the left where he does not have to play a lot with his back to goal.

“There is no denying he is an excellent talent, but I don’t think he is a natural goalscorer. We sometimes forget he is only 21 so time is still on his side.

“But he is very different to Harry Kane, who is determined and ruthless.

“For England, it is not a problem because he will never play there ahead of Harry, and Marcus looked sharp against Bulgaria from the left.”

VERDICT:

Marcus Rashford has till date made 174 appearances for Man United and has managed to net 47 goals which is a fairly good return taking into consideration that he is only 21 years old.

Also this season, the England international has been able to net 2 goals and provide one assist in four Premier League games and that too while starting matches on the flank.

From the first few games that Man United have played, it is pretty evident that Anthony Martial will be playing down the middle so if Marcus Rashford can manage to score 20 odd goals while operating down the flank then surely the manager will have very little to complain about.
