It’s no secret that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking for defensive reinforcements for the next season and there’s every chance the Gunners might have agreed on a deal for Villarreal defender Pau Torres – as per reports.

The 23-year-old has been touted as one of the best young defenders in Europe right now and a couple of months ago, ex-Gunner Santi Cazorla had revealed that Arsenal had talked to him about Torres.

Since then there had been rumours about Arsenal keeping a watch on Pau Torres and now the player has fueled these speculations even more by admitting that he’s learning English.

‘In the morning I do the training regime and then I eat in line with the guidelines established by the club,’ Torres told El Periodico Mediterraneo as quoted by Metro.

‘In the afternoon, after lunch, I study a few languages because I was learning English and now is a good time to resume it.’

And as soon as this statement was made, there have been various reports claiming Arsenal had already agreed on a deal for the youngster but will only make it official once the transfer window opens up.

Will Pau Torres be a good signing for Arsenal?

Santi Cazorla has rated the defender highly while talking about him in the past so it’s safe to say that he is a fine talent.

But what remains to be seen is if he can adjust to life in the Premier League since the English game is much more physical that the La Liga and according to Whoscored.com, ariel duels are one of his weaknesses.

Also, Arteta will be bringing in William Saliba in the summer who for many is going to be the long-term partner to David Luiz so in such a scenario there is every chance that Pau Torres might have to fight for his place in the first-team if he chooses to join the North London outfit.

And perhaps the biggest reason why Arenal might themselves not try and make a move for the youngster is because he has a £43 million release clause in his contract which could be a steep price for the Gunners.
