Tottenham Hotspur looked all set to appoint Paulo Fonseca as their next manager but as per the latest reports, the deal has been called off.

Yesterday, there were several reports claiming the two parties have agreed to a deal and the Premier League side were planning to make the official announcement by the end of this week.

Now all off a sudden, the talks seems to have collapsed and Spurs are no longer going to appoint the former Roma boss as the successor to Jose Mourinho.

Gianluca Di Marzio claims: “Steps forward between Gennaro Gattuso and Tottenham. The English club, having skipped the negotiations with Paulo Fonseca, has targeted the Italian coach for next season.

“The parties are close, based on a two-year contract proposed by the Spurs to the former Napoli coach.”

Why Spurs do not want Paulo Fonseca?

Just 24 hours ago, Fonseca looked all set to become the next Spurs manager but as per various reports, the deal has collapsed due to finances.

Fabrizio Romano claim the talks were called off because of tax issues.

He wrote on Twitter: “Paulo Fonseca to Tottenham is 100% OFF. Deal collapsed because of taxes issues despite contract already completed and set to be signed – Fonseca had tax advantages from an Italian law which is not applicable in the UK.”

But Telegraph’s Matt Law is claiming the backing off had nothing to do with finances.

He wrote: “Can confirm that Tottenham have pulled out of their move for Paulo Fonseca – nothing to do with money, just a decision.”

After Paulo Fonseca, 43-year-old Gennaro Gattuso seems to be the latest link to Tottenham Hotspur and as per the updates, the talks between the former Napoli boss and Spurs are ongoing.

Let’s see where this one leads to.

UPDATE:

The social media is abuzz with reports that Gennaro Gattuso has agreed to a contract with Tottenham Hotspur and will be paid €2.5million annually.
