Chelsea and Liverpool take on each other in the Premier League on Thursday and according to Mark Lawrenson, the match could end with a 1-1 scoreline.

The Blues have found a new gear under Thomas Tuchel which is why the pundit feels Liverpool will be the more weary side at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp could be satisfied with a point.

“Chelsea don’t concede many goals, but they don’t score many either,” Lawrenson told the BBC.

“Their new manager Thomas Tuchel has kind of done steps one and two, which were to tighten them up at the back, and stop conceding. Now he has got to work out step three, which is make them more of a goal threat.

“Liverpool got back to winning ways at Sheffield United on Sunday, but this is a much bigger test. I think they will be quite happy with a point.”

Klopp is not the type of manager who would set up his side to play defensive football but given how badly they have been performing in recent months, Mark Lawrenson might be right.

Liverpool might have beaten Sheffield United on Sunday but before that, they had suffered four straight losses in the Premier League. And going into this midweek fixture, the Anfield outfit are sixth on the league table, one point behind Chelsea.

So if Chelsea were to pick up a win then Liverpool could even be struggling to finish in the top-four by the end of the season. Something, that will be a joking scenario for the defending league champions.

While Klopp will undoubtedly look to pick up a win on Thursday but most importantly, he will urge his players to keep a clean sheet.

Liverpool face teams like Arsenal, Wolves, Villa and Leeds in the coming weeks so Klopp will want his players to pick up as many points as possible vs Chelsea and then against Fulham.
