Aaron Ramsdale to replace Jordan Pickford

England take on Andorra in the World Cup qualifiers on Saturday and Aaron Ramsdale is pushing to become the No 1 for the Three Lions.

The 23-year-old joined Arsenal during the summer transfer window and in the past few weeks, the keeper has slowly been capturing the No 1 spot from Leno at the Emirates Stadium.

While on international duty, Aaron Ramsdale has kept similar ambitions claiming that he can be the regular No 1 for Gareth Southgate.

“I have the self-belief that, yes, I could hold down the position,” he said, as per Sky Sports.

“First and foremost, I have to get in the team and that’s one of my goals at the moment. I’m just trying to learn and take it step by step but over time that’s one of my aspirations.

“I don’t think I have realised yet how it has happened, and the journey I have had.

“Hopefully sooner rather than later, when everything calms down and I am really settled at Arsenal, I might be able to think about my journey so far.”

Will Aaron Ramsdale start for England vs Andorra?

Jordan Pickford is the current first-choice keeper for England but there’s a big chance the Everton keeper could start on the bench on Saturday.

The pitch at the Estadi Nacional is artificial turf and this is why the England boss is expected to rest several key first-team players. And Pickford might be one of them.

The Everton keeper has just recovered from a shoulder injury which is why Rafa Benitez has urged Southgate not to use Pickford unnecessarily against Andorra.

The Everton manager said: “He is fit to play for us and he is fit to play for England. I don’t want to be disrespectful but some of the games are nothing games and so I think it is easy to manage. Of the two games that they have, I would say for one of them they can manage.”

The Three Lions take on Hungary next week and the manager should be protecting most of his experienced pros for that game. This means Aaron Ramsdale should be in line to feature in front of goal on Saturday.
