Rangers FC have signed midfielder Aaron Ramsey on loan from Juventus but the midfielder will not be available for selection on Wednesday.

The Gers face Celtic in the Old Firm Derby in midweek but this game will come too soon for the Welsh midfielder. Firstly, the player himself told the club’s official TV that he will not be ready for the biggest game in Scotland.

He told Rangers TV, via the Glasgow Times: “I’m probably going to be a little bit short for the Old Firm game but hopefully I can get myself ready this week and look forward to getting ready for the weekend, really.

“I’ve had these conversations with the manager and the staff and hopefully we can get a plan in place to get going and back up to match fitness as soon as possible.”

And shortly after this, Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst also confirmed that Aaron Ramsey will be watching from the stands at Celtic Park.

The Rangers boss told the press: “No Aaron will not be in the squad. He’s been out for a couple of weeks, he trained with the squad today, he looks really good, but tomorrow is too soon.

“We’ll assess him this week but I think we can welcome him really quickly to the squad.”

Aaron Ramsey went to Juventus with a lot of promise but since then, he’s played only 70 games for the Turin outfit. This season, he’s played only 99 minutes in the Serie A so even if he was 100% fit, the Rangers boss wouldn’t have handed him a start on Wednesday.

Rangers are just two points ahead of Celtic going into this game so they will need to field every in-form player for the derby.

Scott Arfield played in midfield alongside Kamara and Aribo during the 3-3 draw vs Ross County and now that Aaron Ramsey is not available for selection, the 33-year-old will look to hold onto his place in the middle of the pitch.
