Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette is going to be a free agent next summer and Newcastle United become the latest club who what to sign the 30-year-old.

Sports Mole cites the report: “Newcastle United have reportedly joined the race to sign Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.

“The ex-Lyon man is due to become a free agent in the summer of 2022 and is widely expected to move on given his struggles for starts this season.

“Now, the Sunday People claims that Newcastle are also in the hunt for Lacazette’s signature, with the club’s new owners seeking to drastically strengthen the squad ahead of the 2022-23 season.”

Will Alexandre Lacazette be allowed to leave in January?

The Magpies are not the only club who have shown an interest in the Frenchman with clubs like West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Inter Milan all eyeing a January move for him.

Up until now, it was thought that Arsenal will let him leave on a bargain deal at the start of the new year rather than losing him for free in the summer. But his recent performances might suggest otherwise.

Alexandre Lacazette had been struggling for game time this season but in the past few matches, he’s really stepped up and has been one of the star players for the Gunners.

Many pundits believe Mikel Arteta is starting to trust the forward once again which is why the club might offer him a new deal.

Even if Lacazette does not sign a new deal, there’s a chance the manager will hold onto him and use his services in full. If Arteta can use him and get back into Europe next season then it will be a job well done.

Newcastle United will have money to spare so they can make a substantial offer in January and price out teams like West Ham and Palace from the transfer race. But the Hammers can offer European football to Alexandre Lacazette, this season and maybe the next.

It will be interesting to see how this situation pans out but the entry of the Magpies certainly stirs things up as money could play a crucial factor in determining Lacazette’s future at the end of the January transfer window.
