Will and should Real Madrid pay €70M to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Liverpool?

Alexis Mac Allister was supposed to be a top signing for Liverpool but the midfielder has endured a tough first season at Anfield.

Liverpool had paid around €41 million to sign the midfielder from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer and after his heroics with Argentina, everyone thought he was a bargain signing. However, he’s failed to replicate that same form and now as per rumours, Mac Allister might be on his way to Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old seems to have a release clause of around €70 million which runs the full length of his deal and there’s a big chance that Real Madrid could move in to trigger it in the coming months.

It’s still unclear what Liverpool wish to do with the central midfielder because he’s been at the club for just one season but with a new manager set to come in, there’s every chance that Alexis Mac Allister could be shown the door.

Should Real Madrid pay €70 million for Alexis Mac Allister?

Currently, Real Madrid have no shortage of central midfielders but it’s not a big surprise that Ancelotti is already looking to freshen things up. Dani Ceballos is going to leave in the summer while Kroos and Luka Modric have maybe one more good season left in them.

Luka Modric is willing to take a pay cut to remain at Madrid but Perez and Ancelotti are yet to take the final call which means the Croatian could also leave at the end of this season.

In such a scenario, Madrid’s interest in Alexis Mac Allister is hardly a surprise and despite his failures in Liverpool, the Argentine can find success at the Bernabeu.

At Brighton, Mac Allister was influential all across the midfield but at Liverpool, he’s failed to make a similar impact and that has basically been due to his midfield partners. Thiago has been most of the season due to injuries while Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch have failed to provide consistent support to the 25-year-old.

He’s featured in 32 Premier League games and even though he’s made nine goal contributions, his defensive work has not been that solid. He’s won just over 50% of his tackles and he’s been dispossessed 35 times. The Argentine international has also been dribbled past 66 times.

At Real Madrid, Alexis Mac Allister will be shielded by experienced pros like Modric and Kross and at the same time, he will have energetic midfield partners in the form of Camavinga and Tchouameni. At Liverpool, he was immediately thrown into the deep end of the pool but if he joined the Los Blancos, he will get a lot more room to settle down.

Paying €70 million for a midfielder who’s had average displays this season might seem a lot but Real Madrid have the money and the backup to sign Mac Allister and give the 25-year-old one or even two seasons to find his feet in Spain.
