Arsenal had tried to sign Shakhtar Donetsk’s left-winger Mykhaylo Mudryk during the summer and as per Fabrizio Romano, they could go after him once again.

The 21-year-old scored two and assisted six goals in 11 league games last season and as per the journalist, Lampard’s Everton had put in a bid to sign him.

The Toffees had put in an offer of €30 million plus add-ons for Mudryk but Shakhtar refused to sell him, claiming that he is a lot more valuable.

Romano said on Que Golazo: “I think in the future there is a chance for Arsenal, but only Arsenal. They had a very big chance in the summer.

“When I was speaking to my sources during the summer about Mudryk to understand what’s going to happen with clubs around Europe, they told me from Shakhtar, they really think this guy is worth way more than €30 million.

“They received a proposal on the final week of the transfer window, €30 million plus add-ons from Everton. And they decided to say no after Antony to Manchester United for €100 million.

“They said, ‘For us, Mudryk can’t be sold for €30, or €35, or €40 million. We want way more than this’.

“So this is why in the end they decided to keep the player, because they are convinced that they are going to sell him for crazy, crazy money.

“Arsenal have a chance for the future, but there will be many other clubs in the race. It is not going to be an easy one.”

Will Arsenal reignite their interest in the Ukrainian?

The youngster is one of the rising talents in European football and if he ends up having a good 22/23 season then several big clubs will join the list to sign him next summer.

His current market value is €15 million but his contract expires in 2026 so Shakhtar can afford to play the waiting game.

Arsenal spent a lot of money this transfer window so there’s no way they would have paid €50 or €60 million for Mudryk. However, if the Gunners can manage to return to the Champions League then they will have the finances to go after him.

Also, Gabriel Martinelli is the sole left-sided winger at the club right now which would suggest that Mikel Arteta will look for a backup sooner or later.
