Aston Villa want Sergio Romero Man United

Aston Villa are the latest Premier League side who have been linked with an interest in Man United keeper Sergio Romero, according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic.

Leeds United and Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton have been previously linked with the Argentine keeper but as per the report, it seems like Aston Villa are currently at the front of the queue to sign him this ongoing transfer window.

Whitwell claims that the new contract handed to Dean Henderson is the final nail in the coffin for Romero and Man United have finally put the South American up for sale, for a transfer fee of around £10 million.

Sergio Romero joined Manchester United five years ago from Sampdoria but all this time he has always been used as the back up to David De Gea.

But with De Gea faltering over the past one and a half years, there had been rumours that Ole might finally promote Romero as his regular No 1.

The new contract to Dean Henderson has put an end to all those rumours and Man United are more than willing to send him out – for the correct transfer price.

Aston Villa are out in the market looking to bring in a new No 1 since Tom Heaton is not likely to return to recover from his ACL injury until October.

Paying the £10 million transfer fee should not be a big issue for Villa but they will have to battle it out with the likes of Everton and Leeds United for the signature of Sergio Romero.

Sergio Romero has not hinted at an exit as of yet but if he decides to remain at Old Trafford then he’ll effectively be the third-choice keeper at the club next season.

And with so many big Premier League sides interested in him, the 33-year-old should be more than willing to head for greener pastures this summer.
