Will Aubameyang overcome his illness & be fit enough to play vs Fulham?

Arsenal beat Slavia Prague in the Europa League last week but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was an absentee for the second leg.

The forward has been in and out of the side in recent weeks due to his poor form but the manager had confirmed before Thursday’s game that Aubameyang is suffering from malaria.

Thankfully, this is not another injury setback for the Gabon international and there were some hopes of him making a full recovery and featuring against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, since he had picked up the disease during the international break.

But the Arsenal boss while delivering his team news has more or less made it clear that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not be ready to face the London outfit.

The manager told the press: “As we all know, he had malaria – he picked it up when he travelled in the international break and he didn’t have any symptoms and then got some symptoms a few days later.

“We didn’t know what it was bus the doctor did a great job by making some further investigation and we found out he had picked it up. He had some rough days, he was in hospital for two days but now he is at home, he is safe and he is in good condition and ready to come back.

“Let’s see how he recovers, obviously when you get a disease like this it can take a bit for the body to feel in good condition to the extreme condition we put the body through in our sport.

“But he wants to come back very quickly, he is looking forward to being back with the team so let’s wait.”

Aubameyang will be a big miss for Arsenal vs Fulham but thankfully, Nicolas Pepe has been in fine form so he will occupy the left wing on Sunday.

Pepe put his name on the scoresheet during that 4-0 win over Slavia Prague and given the poor form of Fulham right now, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should not be missed too much this weekend.
