Frenkie de Jong Man United

Manchester United are being linked with Burnley midfielder Sander Berge but it looks like Erik ten Hag is still fixated with Frenkie de Jong.

Man United had come very close to signing the Barca midfielder in 2022 but it was FDJ who rejected a move to the Premier League. However, the United manager is still trying to bring him to Old Trafford, according to a report in Manchester World.

Barcelona are amidst a major financial crisis and now that they have signed Dani Olmo, they will need funds to balance their books. Now, as per the reports, Manchester United will try and test the waters once again, this time with an offer of around €47 million.

Will Barcelona allow Frenkie de Jong to leave for just €47m?

Two years ago, it was Frenkie de Jong who refused to leave Barcelona and join Manchester United but several experts believe that the midfielder is now more willing to leave Spain.

If this is true then a reunion with Erik ten Hag will be the ideal scenario for the Dutch international however, there’s no way Barca will agree to sell one of the best central midfielders in Europe for just €47 million.

The 27-year-old has still two more years left on his contract and his current valuation is €70 million which means the Catalans can very easily sell Frenkie de Jong for around €60 million.

Yes, Barca need money but they know how valuable a player like De Jong is so if Man United are serious about signing him they will have to add at least €15-20 million to their current offer.

A move for Sander Berge will be much more straightforward for Manchester United and their new management but we can understand why Erik ten Hag is so desperate to bring Frenkie de Jong into his squad. The former Ajax midfielder has been with Barcelona since 2019 and so far, he’s played 213 games for the club. He’s primarily a central midfielder but can also play as a CDM and right now, the 27-year-old is the ideal candidate to replace Casemiro.

The new Manchester United hierarchy has been really efficient in signing new players but the club has already spent a lot of money on players like Zirkzee and Leny Yoro which is why we doubt if the Red Devils have the necessary funds to spend €60-65 million on Frenkie de Jong.
