Chelsea had sent out Billy Gilmour on loan to Norwich City so that he can continue his development but so far, the midfielder has played in only four Premier League games.

In the past few weeks, Gilmour has fallen down the pecking order and this is turning out to be the first major hurdle in his development.

He’s remained an unused sub in Norwich’s last three league games and when Daniel Farke was asked about Gilmour’s lack of game time, the Canaries boss had a very candid reply.

‘It’s the wrong picture of what he has done. Yes, he was not in the Burnley game or at Everton but, to be honest, he had a difficult pre-season,’ said the German, as quoted.

‘He came later due to his Covid situation and due to the Euros. He played in the first six games more minutes than any other midfield player for us.

‘The first time he was out was for Arsenal because he had played three games for his country and I had to look after this guy a bit.

‘Billy is a fantastic player and we are all glad that we have him, he has already many minutes under his belt and I am pretty sure that he will add many minutes under his belt during the season. I am not here to please Manchester United or Chelsea, or Tottenham last season, I am just here to win points for Norwich City

‘It’s not about Billy Gilmour or Brandon Williams, or Kenny McLean or Teemu Pukki who are our players, we just like to play with the players to help us to win points.

‘This is the challenge that, for example, our loan players want to have. It is not a gift that we play them because we have loaned them and they want to play many games.’

Billy Gilmour set to join another team in January?

After Farke’s statement, there have been reports that Chelsea might be planning to call Billy Gilmour back during the January transfer window.

The rumours suggest that the Blues are not happy that the youngster is being shunned by the Norwich City boss which is why they want to send him out on loan to a different club for the second half of the season.

We still do not know if this is true or not but if Tuchel does call Billy Gilmour back then Rangers FC could be the most beneficial from this.

The Gers had tried to sign him on loan during the summer but Chelsea chose to keep the midfielder in the Premier League. But now that this plan has not worked out, Billy Gilmour might be allowed to join his former club on loan.

If Billy Gilmour is back available in the market we are sure that several other English clubs will be queuing up to sign him but at Rangers, he is sure to get minutes under his belt.

The Rangers manager would love to bring the youngster on board but Gerrard will not be counting his chickens before they hatch since Billy Gilmour has shown no signs of distress at Norwich and his situation can obviously improve in the coming months.
