Will Casemiro start against Southampton or will Ten Hag keep his faith in McTominay?

Manchester United take on Southampton on Saturday and all eyes will be on whether Casemiro starts this game or not.

The defensive midfielder was just signed from Real Madrid and he was unveiled infront of the Old Trafford faithful on Monday night when United were playing Liverpool. The Red Devils were being linked with all sorts of defensive midfielders this summer but the management have gone out and gotten one of the best in the world.

The Liverpool game came early for the Brazilian but he will have enough time to get a feel of his new team and be ready for gameweek four.

Will Casemiro start against the Saints or will he be on the bench?

McTominay had a wonderful game against Liverpool, playing as the lone central defender so it will be harsh on the manager’s part to drop him to the bench but it’s highly unlikely that Ten Hag will keep a player like Casemiro on the bench.

The manager is clearly happy to sign a player like him and it’s very evident that he has been wanting a player like him.

“He is the cement between the stones, that is what we have been looking for in the summer and found him,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports(h/t the club’s official website).

“[I’m] very happy with his signing.”

Casemiro has been the backbone of the Real Madrid midfield for several seasons and apart from skills, he brings in much-needed experience. He’s played more than 350 games for the club and has won multiple trophies at the club.

After the 2-1 win, Manchester United need to back that win with an authoritative win and since it’s an away game, Casemiro will definitely be starting.

Now, it remains to be seen if it’s Fred or Eriksen who starts alongside Fernandes and their new signing. For Brazil, it’s the pairing of Fred and Casemiro who operate in midfield and we will have to see if Erik ten Hag relies on the same pairing or not.

We think it’s going to be Eriksen who will be the third midfielder because this is an away game and Manchester United will need a lot of creativity to break down Southampton’s defence. The Saints are likely to sit deep and defend meaning United will need to have a lot of creativity on the pitch.
