Celtic FC are in fear of losing Kristoffer Ajer and according to Noel Whelan, Preston North End’s Ben Davies could be the ideal long-term replacement to Ajer.

He told Football Insider: “You’re losing nothing by signing somebody on a pre-contract. You’re not taking too much of a risk, you’re not forking out millions of pounds for a player.

“What you’re doing is giving them the wages without the big lump sum along with it.

“You’re not gonna lose anything, you’re just going to be gaining a top-quality player for absolutely nothing.

“But if you’re going to do it, you’ve got to do it quickly, because I’m pretty sure other teams will be sniffing about seeing a free agent there that they can have at the beginning of next season.”

Celtic FC have been heavily linked with Ben Davies and with the 25-year-old entering the final year of his contract, the Championship club are afraid that he could sign a pre-contract with another club.

Kristoffer Ajer has been heavily linked with a move out of Parkhead this summer and AC Milan are the latest club being linked to him.

While Neil Lennon has made it clear that Ajer will not be sold but sooner or later, the 22-year-old defender will be heading for the exit doors.

And a player like Ben Davies will surely be the perfect replacement for Neil Lennon’s side.

During the 2019-20 season, the centre-back featured in 36 Championship games for Preston North End.
