Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants to sign a new centre-back for the upcoming season and it looks like his latest target is Bayern Munich’s, Niklas Sule.

Express cite Abendzeitung, saying: “Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has reportedly stepped up in his interest in Bayern Munich star Niklas Sule, as he attempts to bolster his defensive ranks in the summer transfer window.

“According to Munich-based newspaper Abendzeitung, the former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain manager is desperate to bring Sule to Stamford Bridge.

“Indeed, it is understand Tuchel is already in talks with Chelsea’s transfer chief Marina Granovskaia over a potential deal.

“Despite the manager’s interest, AZ claim that Bayern are in no rush to part ways with their reliable defender.”

Will Chelsea be able to sign Niklas Sule?

Chelsea are also interested in David Alaba but it doesn’t look they will be able to sign him which is why Tuchel seems to have shifted his focus to Sule.

The Blues were also keeping tabs on Dayot Upamecano but the Leipzig man will be heading to Bayern Munich in the summer.

Niklas Sule has one more year left on his current deal with Bayern and at the start of the new year, there were talks of the club offering him a new deal.

But as per the latest rumours, the talks of the new contract has been put on hold which is a big indication that Niklas Sule could be on his way out this summer.

During the 2020-21 season, the 25-year-old has played in only 14 Bundesliga games so far and with Upamecano arriving, the defender might fall further down the pecking order.

At Chelsea, new boss Thomas Tuchel is primarily playing with a three-man backline meaning Niklas Sule will get a lot of game at Stamford Bridge despite the presence of defenders like Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger.

It’s still unclear if Bayern Munich will be ready to sell the 25-year-old or not but if the halts of the contract extension talks are legit then definitely there’s something brewing.
