Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Denmark’s EURO 2020 opener against Finland but the Danish FA have announced that the playmaker has undergone a successful operation.
Eriksen fell flat on his face during the match without any contact and after a nervy few days, the Inter Milan man has been discharged from the hospital after inserting an ICD into his body.
Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen released a statement on Thursday that read: “After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter).
“This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances. Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally, who all recommend the same treatment.”
The operation has been successful and if some rumours are to be believed then he will now be able to visit his teammates at the training grounds.
A statement from the Danish FA read: “Christian Eriksen has been through a successful operation and was today discharged from Rigshospitalet. Today he also visited the national team in Helsinger and from there he will go home and spend time with his family.”
The statement also included a message from Christian Eriksen.
“Thank you for the massive number of greetings, it has been incredible to see and feel,” said Eriksen, as reported.
“The operation went well and I am doing well under the circumstances. It was really great to see the guys again after the fantastic game they played last night. No need to say that I will be cheering on them on Monday against Russia.”

Will Christian Eriksen be able to play again?
Now that the immediate danger is over, everyone is thinking about the long-term plans and asking whether Christian Eriksen will be able to play again at the highest level.
Professor Sanjay Sharma, professor of sports cardiology at London’s St George’s University has given a very practical assessment of the situation saying that the 29-year-old will find it really hard to play football again, especially in the UK.
“I don’t know whether he’ll ever play football again,” he said, as per The Independent. “Without putting it too bluntly, he died today, albeit for a few minutes, but he did die and would the medical professional allow him to die again? The answer is no.
“I think the Football Association will be very strict about whether he plays again or not. In the UK he wouldn’t play. We’d be very strict about it.”
