Chelsea are going to name Thomas Tuchel as their next manager after sacking Frank Lampard on Monday and according to USA head coach Gregg Berhalter, the German’s arrival could give a new lease of life to Christian Pulisic.

Pulisic joined Chelsea in 2019 but the forward has really struggled to find a regular place in the starting XI over the past two odd years. The American international has played well in patches but with the arrival of players like Werner and Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic has found it even harder to remain in the starting XI this season.

But Berhalter believes that Thomas Tuchel knows exactly how to use the 22-year-old after having worked with him at Borussia Dortmund.

‘For Christian, I think the benefit is, if Tuchel is the coach, that he knows him very well and that’s always important,’ the USMNT head coach told the media.

‘He’s coming in with a really good understanding of what Christian can do and his skillset and I think that’s important.

‘He also has seen Christian develop and improve over his time at Dortmund and, for Christian, it’s the familiarity with how he coaches, his coaching staff, his communication style.

‘That’s all helpful. There’s not that uncomfortable period when you’re getting to know the coach. I think those could possibly be the benefits.’

Christian Pulisic is one of the many players who will benefit from the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and the American, in particular, should see a lot of game time in the coming few weeks.

During the 2020-21 season, the winger has played in only 12 Premier League matches so far and with Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi being favoured by Lampard, Christian Pulisic has mostly had to play out of position.

It’s anybody’s guess if the former Dortmund man will revive his career at Chelsea with the arrival of Tuchel or not but one thing’s for sure, the American international will get a more comforting hand on his shoulders now that Frank Lampard is gone.
