Real Madrid were heavily linked with Cristian Romero in the summer and most experts believe, they still hold an interest in the Argentine defender.

Everyone was certain that Madrid will make a move for Romero however, the transfer did not happen. Now, the rumours are suggesting that Real Madrid will look to strengthen their backline next year and Cristian Romero is one of their top targets.

Tottenham know fully well that Madrid’s interest is genuine which is why the North London side are planning to offer the defender a new contract in the hope that Real Madrid will back off if he agrees to a new deal. According to Give Me Sport, Spurs are willing to offer him a deal which is better than Son’s

Will Cristian Romero sign a new contract with Spurs?

After an initial loan spell, Cristian Romero joined Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent deal in 2022 for a fee of around €52 million and currently, he is one of the most important players in Ange’s squad.

He has played in 102 games for the Lilywhites and his contract with the club expires in 2027.

Romero is in no hurry to sign an extension and with Real Madrid interested in him, the Argentina international will definitely not open talks next summer. He has been very loyal to Spurs but it’s not every day Real Madrid come calling for you.

Los Blancos are also being linked with William Saliba but it will be tough to convince Arsenal for a sale. However, if Madrid can offer around €80 million, Tottenham might agree on a sale.

We think Spurs are pushing for a new deal so that they can insert a crazy release clause. So either Real Madrid will back off or Perez have to pay a significant transfer fee.

It’s still not known how much are Real Madrid willing to pay for Cristian Romero but there’s no way Los Blancos will be ready to pay more than €80-85 million for the 26-year-old.

Nacho Fernandez has left the club as a free agent and currently, Carlo Ancelotti has only three central defenders. Three centre-backs is already a low number for a team like Real Madrid but to make matters worse, David Alaba is still out injured.

If the club does not sign at least one new central defender next year, there’s no way they will be able to keep pace with Barcelona.
