Cristiano Ronaldo is plotting a move back to Real Madrid if Manchester United fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, as per reports in Spain.

According to Catalan newspaper El Nacional, Ronaldo wishes to head back to the Bernabeu if Man United fail to remain in the top tier of European football next season.

Ronaldo has managed to score 14 goals in 23 appearances since returning to Old Trafford but it’s being claimed that he is not sure if United have what it takes to keep their place in the Champions League.

As per the report, Cristiano Ronaldo has instructed his agent Jorge Mendes to hold talks with Florentino Perez over a sensational return to Real Madrid during the summer.

Will Real Madrid be open to signing Cristiano Ronaldo?

Ronaldo has had the best days of his career at Real Madrid winning four Champions League trophies and two La Liga titles and there’s no denying the fans would love to see him make a comeback.

Having said that, CR7 is going to be 37 in the next few days and we doubt if Perez or Carlo Ancelotti will be too keen to take him on board for a second stint.

Cristiano Ronaldo might be a prolific goalscorer but apart from that he doesn’t provide too much in terms of a team game and his return to Man United has actually forced the club to take a few steps back.

In order to accommodate Ronaldo, Ole had to change his strategy(which ultimately cost him his job) and now Ralf Rangnick has also been forced to ditch his high-pressing 4-2-2-2 system and use a 4-2-3-1 formation, just so that CR7 gets to play up front. It’s clear that Ronaldo has lost most of his pace and if he’s not scoring goals then he’s not of much use to a team.

Tactically, Ancelotti has no use of Ronaldo so the only way Real Madrid will resign him is if Florentino Perez wants to bring in a lot of media coverage as well as finances.
