Dani Olmo is currently Barcelona’s only signing of the summer transfer window but owing to the financial mess, the club are yet to register him.
Olmo has been itching to get on the pitch for his new side but Barca will first need to generate a considerable amount of revenue before they can officially register the midfielder. The same thing happened with Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez last summer.
Barcelona face Athletic Club on Saturday and speaking in the buildup of this match, Hansi Flick was still unclear whether Dani Olmo will be available for selection or not.
“(Finances) are not my job, we work with the team and I love what I see this week, Dani is ready to play and we’re waiting for that[for him to he officially registered] and hopefully tomorrow he’s on the team,” Flick told reporters on Friday.
“He could help us, this will be very good for us, he’s an outstanding player.
“Everyone can see in training when he’s under pressure or in front of the goal he’s unbelievable, it’s good to have him in the team as soon as possible.”
As per reports, Barcelona need to clear around €20 million worth in salary to be able to register Olmo and that will now be possible after Gundogan’s return to Manchester City. Apart from the German, Barcelona have also sold Julián Araujo to Bournemouth and they are in the process of getting rid of Vitor Roque and Mikail Faye.
These exits will be enough to register Dani Olmo but the big question is whether the Catalans can do the formalities in time for the midfielder to play against Athletic Club.
If Barca cannot register him in time then Pedri will come into the starting lineup and play in the No. 10 role. In the Valencia win, Raphinha started in the attacking midfielder’s position while Pedri came off the bench to play the final 26 minutes. However, if Dani Olmo is not available on Saturday then Pedri will be handed a start.
