Liverpool could receive a major injury boost for the Real Madrid game: Will Klopp risk using him?

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez picked up a shoulder injury at the weekend but his manager has now hinted that he could be back to full fitness before the Real Madrid tie.

The forward scored a goal vs Newcastle United but had to be taken off during the second half and he was immediately a doubt for the first leg of their Champions League clash.

However, the Liverpool boss has told the media that Darwin Nunez still has an outside chance to play to be available for selection when the Los Blancos come to town.

“There’s a chance[he could feature],” he told reporters(h/t This is Anfield).

“From all the possible scenarios, apart from being absolutely nothing – that’s not the case – we have to see how he can deal with the pain.

“When we know that, we have to make a decision.”

Darwin Nunez is slowly starting to settle down in England so this injury has come at the worst possible time for him.

This fresh update is definitely a big positive but we don’t think Jurgen Klopp is going to risk using him on Tuesday night. Diogo Jota and Firmino are both back to full fitness so there’s no need to take a gamble with Nunez.

Gakpo can play on the wing as well as through the middle and this is a big tactical advantage for Klopp. This versatility allows the manager to use either Jota or Bobby but we have a feeling Gakpo will be one playing on the left wing while the experienced Roberto Firmino will play through the middle.

Firmino is a very good link-up player and because he played 30-odd minutes at the weekend, the Liverpool boss is not going to gamble with Darwin Nunez.
