Man City receive a massive boost before they take on Real Madrid: Another goal-fest on the cards?

David Alaba Real Madrid

Real Madrid host Manchester City in the 2nd leg of their Champions League semi-final and they might have to do it without David Alaba.

The defender has been recovering from a muscle injury and the latest reports are suggesting that he will not be ready in time for the 2nd leg.

He picked up a hamstring injury in the reverse fixture and had to be replaced at half-time and up until Monday, the defender is nowhere close to full fitness.

The latest updates from Spain(via Fotmob) are suggesting that David Alaba has only done personal training on Monday which is a big indication that he will be an absentee when the Cityzens come to town.

Who will replace David Alaba in central defence?

At the Etihad, it was Nacho who came on for the 29-year-old so in the second leg, we are expecting to see the same centre-back partnership of Nacho and Militao.

The manager does not have too many backup options so if Alaba is missing then it’s a pretty straightforward swap.

Ancelotti had fast-tracked Alaba’s return for the 1st leg but that only ended up aggravating his injury so there’s no way he will make this same mistake. He will much rather put faith in Nacho instead of using a less than 100% David Alaba.

Will Man City have a massive advantage if David Alaba is missing?

City go into this match having been unbeaten in 14 away games and they have also not tasted defeat in their last five European outings.

Manchester City scored four goals in the 1st leg but in reality, they should have netted at least six or seven and now that David Alaba will be missing, we are possibly going to see another rampage from Guardiola’s boys.

Nacho has been really average since that El Classico loss so there’s very little chance that he along with Militao will be able to keep players like Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling in check.
