Liverpool receive a dual selection boost before the Champions League final: All problems over for Klopp?

Fabinho Liverpool

Liverpool head to Paris this weekend to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final and in a major selection boost, Fabinho and Joe Gomez have both returned to training this week.

The midfielder picked up a muscle injury at Aston Villa two weeks ago and was a doubt for the Champions League finale. Thankfully, he has returned to full training and has also told the press that he will be ready for Saturday’s clash.

Fabinho’s return is a major boost for the Liverpool boss because Thiago Alcantara picked up an Achilles injury in Sunday’s win over Wolves and is expected to miss the final. Without Fabinho, Liverpool’s win percentage does not drop considerably but this is Real Madrid we are talking about, a team that has knocked out the likes of PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City.

If Thiago and Fabinho were both absent then it would have been utter chaos for Jurgen Klopp but now with Fabinho coming back, at least the defensive midfield position will not be a point of concern.

Joe Gomez also came off injured with an ankle issue in the win at Villa but he too has come back to the AXA Training Centre. He has been used sparingly this season but the defender’s return is also a plus for the manager because he can provide cover in central defence as well as out wide.

With Fabinho coming back, Jordan Henderson will be able to play in a more advanced role and if Thiago is unavailable then Naby Keita will be the third midfielder in the starting lineup.

Thiago has been a class apart for Liverpool this season so his absence will be a major blow for the Liverpool boss. The Spaniard has been integral in Liverpool controlling the tempo of matches and without him, there’s a chance that the likes of Modric and Kroos can operate much more freely.
