In the past few days, Barcelona have been making some serious efforts to sign Federico Chiesa, but the Spanish giants could face a major setback because Liverpool are now being linked with the winger.
Juventus are eager to cash in on Chiesa because he has just entered the final year of his contract. Juventus are reportedly willing to accept around €25-35 million for the 26-year-old winger, which is why Barcelona have shown such strong interest in signing him.
However, in the latest update by Fabrizio Romano, the transfer expert has claimed that Liverpool have just enquired about the Italian international.
He has said on X: “Liverpool make initial approach for Federico Chiesa as possible option for final days. Chiesa, available on the market as Juve want to find a solution and LFC made contact today. Liverpool exploring conditions of the deal as Chiesa would be keen on PL move.”
Will Federico Chiesa choose Liverpool over Barcelona?
Barcelona’s primary target has been Nico Williams but they haven’t been able to sign the Bilbao winger due to all their financial issues. It is almost certain that Barca won’t be able to sign Williams which is why Deco and Laporta have shifted their focus to Federico Chiesa.
Barcelona are keen on Chiesa not only because he is a top talent, but also because he is available at a bargain price. However, these qualities have also attracted the interest of Liverpool, who are yet to sign a player this summer.
A move to Liverpool will be very tempting for Chiesa but if sense prevails then the winger will choose Barcelona over Arne Slot’s side. The Anfield outfit already has Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota who play on the left wing and even Cody Gakpo can operate on the left-hand side, if needed.
A move to the Premier League will be very tempting for the Juventus winger however, it makes no sense for him to join the Merseyside outfit.
At Barcelona, however, the 26-year-old can be the undisputed first-choice left-winger because currently, Ferran Torres is the only player who plays on the left. Hansi Flick is desperate to sign a world-class left-winger so if Chiesa joins Barcelona, the winger will have uninterrupted game time this season.
This summer, Luis Diaz has been linked with a move away, but it is highly unlikely that Arne Slot will sell him. Therefore, the only thing that could tempt Federico Chiesa to join Liverpool would be a massive salary package.
Paying €30-35 million for a talent like Chiesa won’t be an issue for Liverpool, but unless Arne Slot can guarantee him regular starts, the Juventus winger is more likely to choose Barcelona.
