Harry Kane suffered a massive injury setback at the start of the current year but this unexpected lockdown has given the forward the time to return to full fitness, without missing out on too many matches.

The England international started up front for Spurs vs Manchester United on Friday night but the forward was as good as absent from the pitch. Kane touched the ball just 36 times in all – not once in the Manchester United penalty area. And we can safely say this was one of his poorest performances in a Lilywhites shirt.

And now speaking about the lack of impact that Harry Kane had against Man United, Paul Merson has predicted that the centre-forward might be on his way out of the club this summer thanks to Jose Mourinho and his ultra-defensive tactics.

“When Jose took the job I worried for Harry Kane,” Merson told Soccer Saturday, as the Sky Sports website.

“He played under Pochettino and Tottenham sort of had a go wherever they went. There were goals, there were crosses, there were shots.

“[But now] he’s going to be playing up front on his own and it is going to be hard work. In the end he’s trying to hit 60-yard passes just to be involved in the game. That’s not Harry Kane.

“He’s not fit. He’s definitely not fit. They played with virtually 10 men.

“I think he’ll have a serious think at the end of the season, I really do. I don’t see him getting 25-30 goals next season with the way Jose will want to play.

“And Jose won’t want to play like he did when he first got in there and it was 4-2 and 5-3, no way. He’ll like those games like Friday night, 1-1.”

Can Man United sign Harry Kane in the summer?

This statement will be music to the ears of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since the Man United boss has been chasing Harry Kane for some time now.

The OT outfit have been heavily linked with the England captain but Daniel Levy has made it clear that the player will not be up for sale this summer.

While we would love to believe that but if Spurs keep playing such boring football and if they fail to hold onto their Champions League status, there’s every chance that Kane himself will seek an exit from the club.

Finishing in the top-four is anybody’s guess but we are almost certain that Jose Mourinho is not going to change his mindset or tactics any time soon.
