Captain Harry Maguire returned from injury during the weekend but the Manchester United boss chose to keep him on the bench for the Aston Villa game.

It was Lindelof who played as the second centre-back alongside Raphael Varane and speaking after the 2-2 draw Ralf Rangnick told the press why he chose to keep Man United’s captain on the bench.

“He was out for two weeks,” Rangnick told Sky Sports, as per MEN.

“Now he doesn’t have any problems anymore, but he had problems for two weeks and I then decided to keep the two centre-backs who played in the cup game in the team.

“We have the next couple of games coming up on Wednesday and next Saturday, and today I decided to play with the same centre-backs that we played in the cup.”

Will Harry Maguire start against Brentford or will he remain on the bench?

Man United take on Brentford on Wednesday and if everything goes well then the England international should return to the starting line up in this match.

Maguire has been really underwhelming this season with a rating of just 6.8 out of 10 in the 16 Premier League games which he has played so far. But he’s still the favourite to start alongside Varane.

Man United take on West Ham United during the upcoming weekend so the manager has no other option but to rotate his players and keep them injury-free. So even if Ralf is happy with the pairing of Lindelof and Varane he will still have to use Harry Maguire(just to keep the players fresh).

Also, Lindelof and Varane had very average outings against Aston Villa in that 2-2 draw so it wouldn’t be a tough decision for the interim boss to bring Maguire into the side.
