Man United receive a late setback before their game vs West Ham United: What now?

Harry Maguire Man United

Manchester United take on West Ham United on Saturday and Harry Maguire looks all set to start as Victor Lindelof is ruled out.

Lindelof did not train with the squad on Friday which led to a lot of speculations and this was also a cause of worry for some since he was being selected as the partner to Raphael Varane in the previous few games.

Now while talking to the press, Ralf Rangnick has explained that there has been a break-in at the defender’s house which is why he is not available for Saturday’s game.

“I spoke with him at length on our flight back home from London,” said Rangnick, as per Manutd.com. “Also, this morning, we spoke for about 20, 25 minutes this morning. He told me what had actually happened and that this was a traumatic event especially for his wife and three-year-old son.

“He said to me that he right now needs to stay at home. He doesn’t want to leave his wife and family on their own, which I can fully understand, being a father of two children myself. We agreed that he will not be training today and won’t be available tomorrow for the game.”

Harry Maguire set to return to the starting line-up?

Victor Lindelof was shaping up to be the first-choice central defensive partner to Varane but now that he’s missing, Harry Maguire will automatically come back into the side. With Varane and Lindelof at the heart of defence, Man United were looking much more solid, more so since Maguire has been really low in confidence in the previous few months.

Eric Bailly is still out playing in the AFCON so Maguire is an automatic starter in central defence despite only coming off the bench in midweek.

Harry Maguire seems to have fallen down the pecking order at the club in the previous few weeks and as per some rumours, the interim boss has also informed the management that the England international is not good enough.

But with Lindelof unavailable for selection, Ralf has no other option but to put his faith in Maguire during Saturday’s game. The centre-back has played in 17 Premier League games this season for Manchester United and despite being the club captain, he has a rating of just 6.78 out of 10.
