France are one of the favourites to win EURO 2020 and according to Wayne Rooney, N’Golo Kante could be the biggest piece of the puzzle.
The midfielder has just finished a wonderful domestic season with Chelsea by winning the Champions League and according to the Man United legend, Kante is currently the best midfielder in the world and also the ultimate team player.
“France have perhaps the ultimate team player in Kante,” Rooney wrote in his Times column.
“In the Champions League final, he gave the perfect performance. He does everything: breaks up play but then plays in tight areas and starts off the attack.
“You used to see it with Yaya Touré, how he would get the ball and burst forward with it and it is so hard to defend against
“At Chelsea, you see his energy bringing a lot out of the other players.
“Whenever Kante bursts forward you’ll see two or three of them bursting forward too, not worried about leaving their positions because if the ball is turned over they know he’s going to get back in shape and break up the counter-attack.
“For me he is the best midfielder in the world.”

Kante was on the decline last season after picking up a few injuries and Chelsea had even considered selling him off at one point in time. But since then, the Frenchman has turned things around and he was perhaps the key to helping Chelsea beat Manchester City in the Champions League final.

The midfielder has played in 48 games across all competitions for Chelsea during the 2020-21 season, and apart from a few injury absences, Kante has always been in the starting XI.
When Jorginho came in, everyone thought Kante will be pushed out of the side but Thomas Tuchel has turned Chelsea into a formidable side by using both in them in defensive midfield.
There have been whispers that the 30-year-old should win the Ballon d’Or this time around and he has certainly made a case for himself by lifting the Champions League trophy. Now if he can help France win the Euros then surely he will be standing in the front of the queue to win the grandest individual prize of them all.
