Real Madrid welcome Manchester City on Tuesday at the Bernabeu for the Champions League semi-final and midfielder Luka Modric is in line to start the first leg.

The Croatian international suffered an injury on his left leg during Madrid’s defeat to Girona last Tuesday and initially, it was expected that he will be out for around two weeks.

This time frame immediately put him in doubt for the clash against Manchester City but Luka Modric seems to have made a miraculous recovery.

Before the Copa del Rey final, Carlo Ancelotti had revealed that the midfielder has returned to training and he’s going to be in the matchday squad on Saturday.

The Madrid boss said on Friday(h/t 101 Great Goals): “Luka Modrić’s condition is top. He trained very well yesterday. We are going to evaluate him today.

“If Modrić starts tomorrow? If he feels good he will start obviously. I will decide after the training.”

Luka Modric did not get a starting role against Osasuna but he did come off the bench in the 82nd minute to get some minutes under his belt.

Real Madrid have won the Copa de Rey so that is out of the way and now their primary focus is on the first leg against Manchester City.

Some rumours in the Spanish media had claimed that Madrid were faking injuries in order to keep their players fresh and since Modric has recovered in just four days from a muscle injury, this allegation cannot be overlooked.

However, faking injuries or not, the midfielder’s return is a great boost for Real Madrid and he’s definitely going to start alongside Valverde and Toni Kroos on Tuesday night.

Luka Modric has scored two and assisted one goal in eight Champions League matches this season and the 37-year-old will be the key to breaking down Manchester City’s stringent defence.
