Manchester United are scheduled to face Newcastle United on Sunday and Marcus Rashford along with Anthony Martial are both fit to make it into the matchday squad.

Marcus Rashford did not feature for England in the break due to an injury but he has returned to club training this week with Erik ten Hag claiming that the forward will be ready to come into the starting lineup.

“I have good hope[he will be fine],” said Erik in his press conference. “He trained but he had to do some treatment, he had to do some individual training and, today, he joined in the group. I think we have one more day so I have good hope he’s available. I think so.

“For me, it’s positive that he took that time to turn off from football [to go to New York].

“I’ve seen him back this week and he showed a lot of energy, a lot of motivation, so this training, as the whole team, was a really good session with a lot of spirit, but especially also with Marcus.”

If this wasn’t good enough then Anthony Martial is also in line to make a comeback into the squad after having been out for almost two months.

“He is training. So, for two weeks now,” Ten Hag told reporters on Friday. “I think he can be in the squad for Sunday.”

His last appearance for Manchester United was in the Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest on 1st February, following which he has been recovering from a hip injury.

While Marcus Rashford will most certainly hold onto his starting role but there are question marks over Martial’s involvement. The Frenchman has been out for several weeks so there’s no way Erik ten Hag is going to hand him a starting role.

Weghorst will once again lead the line on Sunday and if Man United can wrap up the tie early enough then maybe Anthony Martial will get a few minutes under his belt towards the end of the match.

Raphael Varane and Sabitzer also have minor knocks but they should be able to shake those off. However, the Man United manager will be without Casemiro who remains suspended.
