During the summer, Martin Zubimendi refused a move to Liverpool to remain at Real Sociedad but it seems like the midfielder is ready to leave next year.
The 25-year-old is now wanted by Arsenal along with Liverpool who still hold an interest in him and according to Graeme Bailey for TBR Football, defending EPL champions Manchester City have also registered an interest in Martin Zubimendi.
Zubimendi is primarily a defensive midfielder who has been with Sociedad since he was a teenager and so far, he has played close to 200 games for the senior team. This season, the Spain international has started 7 out of the 8 league games that Sociedad have played and after 675 minutes of league football, he has a rating of 7.33 out of 10.
It is now an open secret that Martin Zubimendi wants to leave at the end of this season and with so many major Premier League clubs interested in him, one might think that the midfielder’s next destination will be the EPL. However, major reports in Spain are suggesting that Zubimendi has his heart set on joining Real Madrid.
Will Martin Zubimendi be tempted to snub Real Madrid?
Zubimendi’s current contract with Real Sociedad expires in 2027 and with so many clubs interested in him, his exit is inevitable.
However, if the Spaniard is keen to join Real Madrid, it is very hard to see him moving to the Premier League despite the fact that City, Arsenal and Liverpool are three of the biggest clubs in the world.
A move to Liverpool is out of the question because he has already snubbed him once. Arsenal and Man City will feel strongly that they will be able to convince Martin Zubimendi but since Madrid need a new central midfielder, Los Blancos will not back off.
Ancelotti has lost Toni Kroos and Luka Modric is going to leave next summer and in such a scenario, the manager does need a long-term replacement. Madrid have brought in Kylian Mbappe and Endrick this summer and next year, the club’s primary target will be to strengthen the midfield and defence.
Zubimendi knows this very well which is why he has his sights set on a move to the Bernabeu and unless Real Madrid give up their interest in the 25-year-old, the three English sides won’t even come close. The LaLiga giants won’t have an issue in triggering the midfielder’s release clause and the only way they can be pushed out of the transfer race is if one of the EPL sides offers him a crazy salary package.
