Chelsea Mason Mount Olivier Giroud

England players Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell are currently isolating after coming in touch with Billy Gilmour who had tested positive for COVID a few days back.

The isolation protocols mean both these players are being devoid of training with the rest of the squad and this could put their selection for the Germany game in real jeopardy.

According to the latest reports, the English FA is trying really hard to keep the duo fully fit ahead of the key Round of 16 games.

Sky Sports are claiming: “The FA is exploring the possibility of Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount taking part in socially distanced training with the full England group so they can be in contention to face Germany.

“The FA is looking into precedent under Premier League project restart last summer when players worked in groups of five without contact or tackling.

“Mount and Chilwell trained at a private location on site at St George’s Park away from the full squad on Thursday.”

Will Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell be available for the England vs Germany game?

According to rules, Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell will have to isolate until the 28th of June, just one day before the England vs Germany game.

So ideally, even though they will be available for selection but the pair will not be able to take part in any first-team training sessions in the build-up to this match.

And this is why many pundits want Gareth Southgate not to take the risk of selecting either of these two players on Tuesday.

Luke Shaw is anyways the first-choice left-back for England in the European Championship so even if Ben Chilwell is available for selection then also Shaw is going to be named in the starting line-up. So Southgate does not need to worry too much about that area of the pitch.

But if Mason Mount is left out then there could a bit of reshuffle in the attacking half of the team.

If the Chelsea man is missing then Jack Grealish is likely to play in the attacking midfielder’s role plus Raheem Sterling is going to keep his place down the left flank.

Young Bukayo Saka played as the right-winger against the Czech Republic but since this is Germany we are talking about, the England boss is going to take name someone like Marcus Rashford in that role.
