Chelsea take on Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday and the manager has confirmed that Mason Mount is fit enough to be named in the matchday squad.

Mount has missed both the Manchester City and the Juventus games and many pundits have argued that if he was available for selection then things could have turned out differently.

Now, updating about his team, Thomas Tuchel has revealed that the midfielder is back to full fitness.

‘Mason is in the squad, Mason is back. It was not a long injury, and we are happy he is back,’ the manager said in his pre-match press conference.

‘It’s obviously a given he is nominated in the England squad and he will give everything.

‘We need to be careful. We took him out at half-time against Tottenham because he had a rough half, and everyone was talking about us being good in the second half when he wasn’t on the pitch. Suddenly he’s missing and now he’s the one.

‘It’s not on single players. Of course, we want to have Mason, and we know the energy he gives, and of course, we miss him, but we cannot start reducing our performances to the players who are missing.’

Will Mason Mount play against Southampton?

Chelsea go into this game at the back of two defeats, first to Manchester City and then against Juventus in the Champions League. So naturally, Thomas Tuchel will want to go into the international break with a win under his belt.

Now Southampton have not made the brightest start to their Premier League campaign(picking up just four points from their first six league matches) which is why we think Tuchel might opt to start Mason Mount on the bench.

Even though his injury was not serious, the Chelsea boss has ample attacking options to not get worried and this is why we think he will opt to use Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the playmaker roles, just behind Romelu Lukaku. Maybe Mason Mount could come on some time in the second half.
