According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United will launch a bid to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount thanks to his doubtful contract situation.
Arsenal and Liverpool have already shown an interest in signing the England international and it looks like Manchester United have joined the bandwagon as well.
Mount’s contract with Chelsea is going to expire next summer and if he does not agree to a new deal then the Blues will sell him off during the upcoming transfer window. They won’t risk holding onto him for one more year and then risk losing him as a free agent.
Rumours suggest, Mount is not happy with the terms of his new deal and could look to leave in the summer which is probably why Man United want to sign him up for around £55m.
Which move will Mason Mount choose if he decides to leave Chelsea?
Mount has seen a dip in form this season but he is still one of the best young attacking midfielders in England. He’s only 24 years old and has plenty of time to get his career back on track.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all top clubs but if he wants to level up then he should join Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Yes, Liverpool will most likely miss out on Champions League football next season but they are badly in need of a new attacking midfielder so a player like Mason Mount will feel wanted at Anfield. Thiago hasn’t had a great impact in England and there’s no way Klopp will go into next season relying on Thiago and Henderson as his attack-minded midfielders.
Arsenal have Odegaard while Man United have Bruno Fernandes which means Mount will have to fight for his place in the first XI at these clubs.
Chelsea want around £80-85 million for the midfielder but there’s no way they are getting paid that much because Mount has only one year left on his contract. A fee of around £55-60 million should be enough to strike a deal and we seriously think Liverpool is his best bet.
Man United know very well that he’s going to be wanted man from next month which is probably why Ten Hag wants to wrap this deal early. Liverpool are currently focused on signing Mac Allister and until that’s done, we don’t think Klopp will sign another midfielder.
If Mason Mount wants Champions League football then Arsenal and Manchester United are his two options but if he wants consistent game time then Liverpool is the way to go.
