Manchester United have been reignited their interest in Matthijs de Ligt and are planning to make a bid for him in the summer – as per various sources.

The 20-year-old was wanted by a series of top European clubs last summer but in the end, he chose to join Serie A giants Juventus where he’s played in 20 games so far this season.

But Man United seemed to have identified the centre-back as a top priority transfer target with Ole viewing him as the perfect partner to Harry Maguire.

While the Old Trafford outfit is expected to make a formal offer as soon as the current season comes to an end but ex-United defender Jaap Stam has urged Matthijs de Ligt to remain at Juventus if he wishes to be the best in the world.

He told TuttoJuve.com, via Metro: ‘I think it’s fundamental that De Ligt stays at Juve for many years, because it’s the only way to improve, by dealing with the best, learning to live with pressure in important Champions League and Serie A games.

‘He was criticised a little but had to understand how to adapt to a different style of football. He’s still young and Matthijs is at a big club with far more pressure than he was accustomed to.

‘The standard of opponent he is facing in Italy is also far higher than in the Netherlands.

‘Juventus invested a large sum to sign him, someway would say too much, but in my view, he has done well so far. The experience has made him believe in himself more. He just needs to learn Italian so he can communicate with his teammates.’

Will Matthijs de Ligt move out of Juventus?

Matthijs de Ligt has not had the best of starts to his career in Italy but he’s still 20 years old meaning time is very much on his side.

And after spending around €85 million on the centre-back just one year ago, we do not think the Turin based outfit are even thinking of offloading him during the upcoming summer transfer window.

So while various tabloids might be hinting of a Man United bid for Matthijs de Ligt at the end of the season, we do not think Ole will be foolish enough to spend so much money on a centre-back especially right after such a pandemic crisis.
