Premier League side Manchester United are highly interested in signing Spanish defender Pau Torres but there’s a chance they might miss out on him.

Erik ten Hag wants to add a new ball-playing central defender to his squad and Pau Torres is one of the players who has been on United’s radar for a really long time.

The 25-year-old has come up through the ranks at Villarreal and in the previous few seasons, he has become the mainstay in defence for Unai Emery’s team. Since returning from loan in 2019, the 25-year-old has played in close to 130 games across all competitions.

The new Man United boss is viewing Pau Torres as one of the long-term partners for Raphael Varane but there’s a chance that the Red Devils might not be able to bring him on board.

Is Pau Torres more likely to join Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur?

Antonio Conte is another manager who has his eyes set on the centre-back and as per the Athletic, Torres is open to joining Spurs. Conte reportedly wants Torres and Bastoni as his primary centre-back partnership and Daniel Levy is keen to make this happen.

Conte has helped Tottenham get back into the Champions League and this is why the North London side are attracting some of the best talents in Europe.

They have already signed Ivan Perisic plus they are also not going to lose Harry Kane or Son so it’s not a surprise that Pau Torres is willing to join Tottenham.

This is a major blow for Manchester United, more so because Erik ten Hag might not have a very big budget for signing a central defender.

According to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Seth signing a defender is not a priority for United this summer and since Villarreal want around €55-60 million for Pau Torres, the Old Trafford outfit will find it hard to price out Tottenham.

Torres is more than willing to leave Villarreal this summer and it won’t be a surprise if the centre-back chooses a move to Spurs and not to Manchester United. Conte has managed to sort out his tactics and has also identified his key players and on top of this, Spurs will be playing in the Champions League next campaign.
